Active Travel Pavement Art
Client
Suffolk County Council
Purpose / Values
To research, develop and deliver a series of pavement art interventions to gamify and improve routes to school - encouraging children to walk, cycle or scoot to school and reduce the use of cars.
Art Streets teamed up with Ranelagh Primary School to develop a pavement art project that encourages active travel to school. This project was commissioned by Suffolk County Council and playfully enhances three routes leading to the school. The pupils were involved in design decisions though special assemblies and were set the challenge of finding all the painted sites in the area.
Micheal Brooks, SCC said “The team at Art Streets were a pleasure to deal with during this project. They listened to the brief, made positive and constructive suggestions, and took on board feedback – they were more than happy to involve the school and pupils in agreeing the designs, and really helped make the designs work. The project came in early, under budget, and exceeded our expectations in every way – the school love the designs, and it’s made an immediate impact with families and has really brightened up every location. The films show how excited the pupils are, and how pleased the school are with the results of Art Streets hard work. We appreciate their help in turning a great idea into something that will brighten up pupils and their family’s school days for many years to come!”
